Gnarfunkel + Wiarda

Friday, March 24th, 2023

Join us for an electrifying evening of lights, sound and dancing at the world renowned Fortune Sound Club.

Playing will be Gnarfunkel, and WIARDA, two acts that are known for their genre bending performances and are coming off of a red hot year in 2022.

GNARFUNKEL is a Vancouver-based band making waves with their electrifying live shows and unique melangé of musical styles. Their sound incorporates elements of funk, psychedelic rock, hip-hop, Latin rhythms, and eastern tonalities in a sound they dub “west coast funk”. They are known for their outrageous stage antics, and performances that flow seamlessly from start to finish taking audiences on an energetic journey through time and space. Gnarfunkel has opened for Half Moon Run, Five Alarm Funk and played music festivals across BC and Ontario.

Gnarfunkel released their debut album “Gnarnia” in 2022 both digitally and on vinyl. The album spawned a number of singles including “A Million Monkeys'', which prompted findnoenemy.com to say “I’m not even exaggerating when I say ‘A Million Monkeys’ had me awestruck, covered in goosebumps, and wholly immersed.” The blues rock single “Too Much Is Never Too Much” was added to many playlists including Spotify’s “Modern Blues Rock”. In the first eight months after release, “Gnarnia” was streamed over 70k times online and gained the band active monthly listeners in over 50 countries. The supporting Gnarnia Tour hit nine different Canadian cities including Toronto and Montreal, which started a solid fan base across Canada.

WIARDA ~

From three-note songs on the piano, flawed attempts at the Internet , to a remaining insatiable appetite for harmony , Natalie Wiarda was finally saved from herself in the autumn of 2020 when she met her matches. Max, her fearless percussionist and Harry, a drunker-than-boxed-wine bass prodigy. The following spring brought Phil, too sexy for his own good on guitar and Kaila, the original harmony minion. Unto us WIARDA is born. Influences include Regina Spektor, Amanda Marshall, Alanis Morisette herself & MUNA. WIARDA is a fusion of anthem rhythm, confessional lyrics and church chords. Seeped in trauma bonding and lessons not yet learned ,WIARDA will make you feel something.

These confessional tracks will score your break up, fuel your road trip, enhance your high. If you sang along it would blow my mind. I like words, and so do I. While you rehearse your authenticity and check your math, WIARDA will be there.

It’s cheaper than therapy and they’re easy on the eyes.
